Does a remodel crew legally need its own toilet?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51 requires employers to provide toilets on construction jobs, with 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers. The rule has an exception for mobile crews with transportation to nearby toilets. In practice, most contractors on a multi-day remodel either bring a unit or ask to use your bathroom. Confirm with your contractor.
Our OSHA jobsite toilet guide covers larger crews.
Should your contractor rent the unit, or should you?
Both ways work; the choice is control and cost. When the contractor rents, the unit is their job and their bill, sometimes with a markup. When you rent, you pick the spot, the timing and the unit, and you see the itemized price. Either way, put it in the contract; direct rentals start at $155 per 28-day cycle.
| Question | Contractor rents | You rent |
|---|---|---|
| Who picks the spot? | Contractor | You |
| Who sees the real price? | Contractor | You, itemized |
| Who calls for pickup? | Contractor | You |
| Who pays for damage beyond normal wear? | Contractor | You |
If you rent it, tell the crew where it is and that it's for them.

(864) 209-8789Free quoteHow long will you need the unit for each kind of project?
Project length decides the rental type. A roof replacement often takes 2 to 5 days, which fits a short rental. A bathroom remodel often runs 3 to 6 weeks, and a kitchen 4 to 8 weeks. An addition or full rebuild can take 3 to 9 months. Anything 7 days or longer gets weekly service.
| Project | Typical length | Rental type |
|---|---|---|
| Roof replacement | 2–5 days | Short-term rental |
| Exterior paint | 1–2 weeks | 1 cycle of 28 days |
| Bathroom remodel | 3–6 weeks | 1–2 cycles of 28 days |
| Kitchen remodel | 4–8 weeks | 2 cycles of 28 days |
| Addition or rebuild | 3–9 months | Long-term rental |
These ranges are typical, not promises. Your contractor's schedule is the real guide.
How does 28-day billing work for a remodel?
Long-term rentals bill in 28-day cycles, not calendar months. The price is the same whether the unit stays 10 days or 28 days in that cycle. Weekly service is included. Call or text to schedule pickup, billing stops with the pickup date's cycle, and there's no removal fee.
Where should the unit go in your driveway?
The best remodel spot is the edge of your driveway, on your own property, about 10 feet back from the street. The spot should be level and firm, with a 10-foot clear path from the truck. Leave room for the dumpster and material drops. Turn the door away from the neighbor's windows for privacy.

Keep the unit off the street and road shoulder. SCDOT-maintained roads need an SCDOT encroachment permit for anything placed in the right-of-way, and cities have their own street rules. A side yard works too if the gate is at least 44 inches wide.
What do HOAs usually say about a jobsite toilet?
HOA rules on jobsite toilets vary, so read your covenants before the crew starts. Many HOAs allow a unit during active work, and some ask for placement beside the garage, behind a fence, or out of view from the street. A few set time limits. Send the HOA a quick note with your start date and each 28-day cycle.
A heads-up to neighbors goes a long way, too. Tell them how long the work will last and that the unit gets serviced weekly. Most complaints come from surprise, not the unit itself.

(864) 209-8789Free quoteCan the roofing crew just use your bathroom instead?
Some homeowners offer their bathroom, and most regret it by day 2. A roofing crew of 4 to 8 works 8 to 10 hours, tracking grit, tar and mud across floors. A remodel may shut off your own plumbing for days. A unit in the driveway keeps the crew outside and your home private.
Your contractor may also prefer a unit. Workers don't have to knock, take off boots, or wait for the family to finish. Time saved on the job adds up over a week.

Have 6 details ready when you book a remodel unit. Give us the address or ZIP code, the start date, the crew size, and the expected project length. Describe the spot you picked and any gate, slope or HOA rule. Tell us who pays and who calls for pickup, you or the contractor.

Questions renters ask before booking
My contractor wants to charge me about $400 for the porta potty. Is that normal?
Contractors often add a markup for handling the rental. Renting directly, a standard unit starts at $155 per 28-day cycle with weekly service, plus a first-cycle delivery fee starting at $45, with tax on its own line. Ask your contractor what their price covers.
How much is a porta potty for a 3-day roof job?
A short rental of a few days starts at $165, with delivery and pickup included within 25 miles of our Anderson yard. A job of 7 days or more moves to a 28-day cycle starting at $155 with weekly service. We quote whichever fits your dates.
Can I keep the unit if the remodel runs months over schedule?
Keep the unit as long as the job runs; it auto-bills each 28-day cycle, starting at $155 per cycle. Weekly service continues every week. Call or text when the crew wraps up, and billing stops with the pickup date's cycle.
Who pays if the crew damages the unit?
The renter is responsible for damage beyond normal wear, such as fire, tipping or graffiti. If your contractor rents the unit, that falls on the contractor. Settle that in writing before work starts.
Can the unit go on the street in front of my house?
Place the unit on your own property whenever you can. Streets and shoulders are public right-of-way, and SCDOT-maintained roads need an encroachment permit for anything placed there. Cities may have their own rules for city streets.
Can you drop the unit before the crew shows up Monday morning?
Saturday delivery is available by request, or we can deliver Monday inside the 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. window. Mark the spot with cones or a texted photo and nobody needs to be home. There are no Sunday deliveries.
