What is the real difference between a restroom trailer and a porta potty?
A restroom trailer is a small building on wheels with flushing toilets, vanity sinks with running water, mirrors, lighting and climate control. A standard porta potty is a single plastic unit with a 60-gallon tank, a seat, a urinal and hand sanitizer. The trailer needs power and water; the porta potty needs neither.
| Feature | Standard unit | Deluxe flushing unit | VIP cabin | 2-station trailer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toilet | Seat over tank | Foot-pump flush | Porcelain-style flush | Flushing toilets |
| Sink | Sanitizer only | Interior sink | Vanity sink | Vanity sinks, running water |
| Lighting | Daylight through roof | Daylight through roof | Interior light | Interior lighting |
| Climate control | Vents | Vents | Vents | Heat and air |
| Power needed | None | None | None | 110-volt, 20-amp outlet or generator |
| Water needed | None | Onboard tank | Onboard tank | Hose or onboard tank fill |
Does your venue have the power and water a trailer needs?
A restroom trailer needs 3 things on site. It needs a dedicated 110-volt, 20-amp outlet within 100 feet, or a generator we bring and quote. It needs a garden hose connection or an onboard fresh tank fill. It needs level ground about 20 feet long with a clear route for the truck and trailer.

"Dedicated" means nothing else big runs on that circuit. Caterers' coffee urns and band amps on the same circuit can trip the breaker. Ask your venue which outlets are on separate circuits.
Barns and farms often have power at the barn but nothing near the field. That's when a generator or a VIP cabin makes sense.

Our sizing method uses guests times hours divided by 200, rounded up, for events longer than 4 hours. A bar adds 20%, with at least 1 more unit. A 150-guest, 5-hour wedding with a bar needs 5 units, and 1 should be wheelchair-accessible. Add 1 two-station hand wash per 4 toilets.
| Guests | Hours | Bar? | Standard units |
|---|---|---|---|
| 80 | 4 | No | 2 |
| 100 | 5 | Yes | 4 |
| 150 | 5 | Yes | 5 |
| 250 | 6 | Yes | 10 |
For a trailer, we match station count to your guest count and hours when you call. Run your own numbers on the porta potty calculator.
What are the budget tiers from basic to luxury?
Wedding restrooms fall into 4 budget tiers. Tier 1 is standard units in pink, blue or gray with hand wash stations. Tier 2 is deluxe flushing units with sinks. Tier 3 is a VIP flushing cabin, often paired with standard units. Tier 4 is a restroom trailer, with larger trailers quoted for big guest lists.
- Standard units plus hand wash: lowest cost, goes anywhere a dolly can roll.
- Deluxe flushing units: PolyJohn Fleet, foot-pump flush, interior sink, about 24% roomier inside.
- VIP flushing cabin: flush toilet, vanity sink, mirror and light, no hookups.
- Restroom trailer: separate doors, running water, climate control.
Prices for each tier are on our pricing guide.
Can you mix trailers and porta potties at one wedding?
Mixing unit types is common and often the best value. A trailer or VIP cabin goes near the reception for guests in formal wear. 1 or 2 standard units go near parking, the catering tent or the band area for staff. Each cluster still needs at least 1 wheelchair-accessible unit if guests will use it.
Staff and vendors work long hours and use the restroom often. Giving them their own standard unit keeps the guest restrooms cleaner through the evening.

Which option works on grass, gravel or a slope?
Standard units go almost anywhere a dolly can reach on level, firm ground. A VIP cabin needs a flat spot about 5 by 5 feet with truck access. A restroom trailer needs level ground about 20 feet long and a route for the truck. On wet red clay, every option does better on gravel or a driveway.
Sloped lawns at lake houses and hilltop barns are the usual trouble spots. Walk the venue with us in mind: where can a truck pull in, and where is the flattest ground near the reception? Send photos and we'll tell you what fits.

Restroom trailers have steps up to each door, so a guest in a wheelchair can't use most trailers. Add a Satellite Freedom wheelchair-accessible unit with a ground-level floor, grab bars and a 60-inch turning space. The 2010 ADA Standards call for at least 5% of units in each cluster, and at least 1, to be accessible.

See section 213.2 of the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design. Your venue may have its own rules too, so check with them. Our wheelchair-accessible unit page has full specs.
When should you book wedding restrooms?
Book a restroom trailer as soon as your date and venue are set, since trailers are the first to fill on spring and fall weekends. Standard and deluxe units can be booked closer in, about 1 to 2 weeks ahead. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before scheduled delivery.
We drop event units Friday and pick up Monday at no extra charge, so a Saturday wedding has units ready for Friday's rehearsal. Weddings in scheduled-run cities outside the Upstate need at least 3 business days' notice.
Questions renters ask before booking
What does a restroom trailer cost for a wedding weekend?
A 2-station restroom trailer starts at $1,150 for a weekend, and larger trailers are quoted. If the venue has no 110-volt, 20-amp outlet within 100 feet, a generator is quoted as its own line. The itemized quote is final.
Is a VIP cabin a good middle option for 100 guests?
The VIP flushing cabin has a flush toilet, vanity sink, mirror and light, starting at $425 for an event. One cabin plus 2 or 3 standard units covers many 100-guest receptions. We size it from your hours and whether there's a bar.
How much would standard units cost for a 150-guest wedding?
Our method puts a 5-hour, 150-guest wedding with a bar at 5 units, 1 of them wheelchair-accessible. Standard event units start at $165 each and the accessible unit at $225. Hand wash stations start at $95 each.
Can a restroom trailer run off a generator at a farm wedding?
A restroom trailer can run off a generator we bring when there's no outlet, quoted as its own line. The trailer still needs fresh water from a hose or an onboard tank fill. A 2-station trailer starts at $1,150 for a weekend.
Do pink units look okay in wedding photos?
Pink, blue and gray event units are available. Many couples pick gray or pink and set the units off to the side of the photo line. Event units arrive cleaned and fully stocked, starting at $165.
Will the trailer be cool inside for an August wedding?
Restroom trailers have climate control, which runs on the dedicated 110-volt, 20-amp outlet or a generator. Standard units have vents but no air conditioning. With Anderson's July average high of 90.7°F, guests notice the difference; trailers start at $1,150.
